swine flu

Yet another thing to watch out for... the swine flu.

I just heard about this virus the other day and now it is all over the news. Just like the regular flu, you can get it by germs. Do not drink after people, let anyone sneeze or cough on you (which why would you let that happen ever).

Supposedly it came from Mexico and started with pigs. Many people have gotten the flu over the years and some have been fatal. SO be careful!

There has been a case in South Carolina but that doesn't mean it is spreading. I know I am just going to wash my hands more and just avoid sick people. Good luck my friends... lets beat this flu.

Here is a link with some facts and info about the swine flu

This year flew bby

I have heard people say that times flieswhen you get older and now i believe that saying.

This year and especially this semester has gone by so fast. It was like one day it was Christmas break and the next day I am sitting here writing about where all the time went. It is kind of sad/scary that I have almost completed two years in college. I am half way through and I still haven't the idea of what I want to do with my major when I get into the real world. My dream job is Saturday Night Live, but come on I should keep dreaming.

Summer is so close and I know that will fly by as well. I just need to cherish my moments and memories.

peace and love

UGA shooting

To me, nothing is scarier than a school shooting.  This weekend there was a shooting on a college campus and it happens to me very important to me.

My sister goes to UGA, my best friend goes to UGA, and a bunch of my friends go to UGA

UGA is where the shooting was. A professor went on a rampage killing three. No students were killed, but three adults were.

I just don't get how someone can one day wake up and decide to kill people. The murder is still on the loose and the Athens police have put a lookout all around the country for his red Jeep.

I hope he gets found. A man like that is dangerous on the loose. It is scary to think he might have seen my sister around campus.

Earth Day

Yesterday was Earth Day.

I would like to think of myself as a pretty 'green' person. I take short showers, I recycle, I always turn the lights of when I leave a room, but I don't think that is enough these days.

I read about super rich people changing their whole houses to become green. Solar panels, eco-friendly pipes to heat up water without using so much energy, and so on. They say we all need to do this, the problem is we aren't all celebrities getting paid a couple thousand dollars to walk down a red carpet.

I wanted to do something for the earth on earth day so I went to see Disney' earth. Because of my $7.50 ticket, a new tree is being planted in the rainforest. The movie was absolutely breath taking. So beautiful and great. You should all go see it!

Happy late earth day!

Be green, or greenish

Last Week of school= CRAZY

This is the last full week of school. It is bittersweet. The sweet part is that summer is right around the corner, the bitter part is that my classes have become an overload.

I have 5 classes and I think I have at least one paper due for each class. AHH

I have finals next week and that is scary because I haven't started studying. AHHH

For all you students like me who are super busy I have some advice...

1. Stay calm.  It  is just school, it is not like a hungry bear is chasing you.
2. Avoid Facebook. I know it is tough, but we can do it.
3. Get some sleep. Your brain needs a break, catch a nap.
4. Eat healthy. I know it is hard when you go to Thompson, McDonalds, Moe's... you know it is pretty hard in college. Eat a salad.
5. And finally, just remember SUMMER is so so so close.

OPENING DAY

YAY!!!!

Today is MLB's opening day! I love baseball season. I love just sitting in the sun with thousands of your greatest friends watching the hometown team. You would think that me being from Atlanta would love the Braves, but their okay. My heart is with the Chicago Cubs. This girl loves the Cubbies!

I have seen the Cubs play a couple times. I have seen them play 2 times at Turner Field in Atlanta. It was so exciting. But last summer my dream came true... My family saw the Cubs play at Wrigley Field. It was amazing, plus they won so the whole stadium burst out into song and sang the victory chant "GO CUBS GO". It was one of the best days ever!

This summer I am definitely going to try to see the Braves vs. Cubs game in Atlanta. They play June 2, 3, 4. But I really hope we make it to Wrigley again. I would love it! We will be in Chicago for a wedding, so it would be perfect.

Even though they haven't won the world series in over 100 years, I still love my Cubs. Maybe this could be the year. Finger crossed!

Goooooo CUBS!!

Obama's Dream Team

I would never want to be the President, but he does have some cool perks.

What Obama gets to do that I think would be pretty cool is to make his own 'Dream Team'. He can pick whoever he wants to fill his open positsions.

Obama does stuff that I can't even comprehnend. It is smart that he picks very smart and wise people to surround him. With the poor economy, he has to pick some people he can trust.

According to CNN.com, Since his Jan. 20 inauguration, Obama has filled only a handful of top Treasury posts.

Let's hope his Dream team comes through for America.

oh the economy

Oh, the economy.

I am glad I am not graduating this year. With the poor economy the job market is so poor. Many of my professors have bashed the job market and feel bad for the graduating seniors who are off to look for a job.

Many people say this is the worst economy since the great depression. Now how scary is that. This has also been one of the longest depression since the great depression. It started in December 2007, this is going on it 17 month of depression.

I am not all that knowledgeable on this subject so I have to get my information for others. CNN's articles are very easy to read and understand. Take a look at this article.

Peace and Love and lets hope for a turn around,

Ann

My idea on how to fix the nations economy problems.

I don't know much about the economy or the situtaion we are in, but I do have an idea how to fix it.

Professional athletes are paid ridiculous amounts of dough to play their sports. With all the baseball drama with steroids and stuff I think that the players should get punished. Why not take 5 million dollars away from their 20 million dollar contract and put it in a big jar labeled "to fix the economy". The 5 million to that player would be like pocket change and he probably wouldn't even miss it. He would most likely blow it away on something dumb anyways.

All the time you see headlines of rich athletes being sent to jail because of stupid stuff. Punishment them, make them give some of their HUGE salaries to the economy jar.

We could do this with the NBA, MLB, and the NFL.

I wish it could be this simple. It is probably a  good thing I am not the president.

Happy State

Does the state you live in make you happier?

Yes, according to some polls

It looks like sunshine brings joy, it does to me at least. The happiest state was the outdoorsy Utah and close second was Hawaii. I am from Georgia and the sun shine is pretty nice and warm. I say I am pretty happy!

Is your state happy?

Writing for the Johnsonian

I have to try to write a story and get it in to the Johnsonian, the school newspaper. I have a topic but I am having an extremely hard time getting words down.

I want to write a story on FCA and the goal for it on campus. I have interviewed some people about it, and it is hard to find a positive thing about the gatherings, and I don't want to bash FCA in my story.

Hopefully I will find that one person who has something to say that will get my fingers moving and typing.

What to do for spring break

SPREAK '09 is coming up in one week!

So what so I do? I have been offered to go to my friends house in Florida, but  I haven't been home in so long. I am a family person and it would be great to go to Florida and hang with my friends, but it would also be great to see my family.

My family is awesome. I have two sisters and one brother a mom and a dad. My older sister goes to UGA and is 21. My little sister is 15 and is a freshman in high school. My brother is a senior in high school and next year he is going to play football at Auburn University. I am so excited to watch him play.

I already blogged about my two dogs! I love them.

I guess for spring break I could just go to the beach for half the week then go home the other half.

Well see

Finally

FINALLY!

I woke up today with NO frost on the window, NO need for three jackets, NO cold!

It is such a beautiful day outside. I went for a long bike ride, something I haven't done in a long time.

I love this weather!

Super Bowl

This years Super Bowl was okay. The game was so boring until the last five minutes. I wanted to underdog Cardinals to win, but I wasn't that into the game. I was looking forward to the commercials . Again they were just okay. Nothing that made me laugh hard. The Denny's commercial did catch my eye though... FREE food.

Today from 6am to 2pm Denny's had a free Grand Slam breakfast. After my class, my friend and I went around 11 to get our free meal. There was a lot of traffic heading down cherry road, but we did not put two and two together.

I have never seen as packed as a parking lot as Denny's today. There were police cars there helping people park. The line to get in was so far out the door, you would have thought Micheal Jordan was in there. Needless to say, we did not get our free food because we didn't want to wait two hours.

I guess us Americans love our free stuff... especially when it is food.

My Dogs

I love my dogs. Coe Coe and Spectacles. Coe Coe is 12 and a complete mutt. Specs is 3 and also a total mutt. Me and my family have a weak spot in out hearts for mutts. Coe and Specs rule our house, they are the queens. Coe is always the last one to get up in the morning. She bounces from bed to bed as people wake up and comes downstairs after the last one of us has left for school. My mom feeds her and then she is back to bed. Specs is the sweetest dog I have ever met. She is a cuddler.

There is a great story behind her name, Spectacles Hartwell Lutzenkirchen. In the summer of 2005, my family was at Lake Hartwell as much as we could. We love it there. One day it was so hot and my dad had been doing yard work. After a couple of hours he ran and leaped into the water without realizing to take of his glasses. As he floated to the surfaces he let out a yell and told us to all dive in and begin searching. He told us that whoever found them would get $50.

After a day of searching I began joking with my dad and asked him if I found the glasses then could we get a puppy. Thinking it couldn't really happen he agreed and I began my real search. I was in the water for so long looking that my whole body was a prune. 5 hours later... I FOUND THE GLASSES. I was getting a puppy! So on July 5, my mom, my best friend and I went to the Lake Hartwell pound and found Spectacles. She has two spots on her forehead that look like they could be sunglasses marks. She was perfect!

Coe Coe and Specs are a true part of the Lutzenkirchen family and we wouldn't be complete without them.

I'm not normal

I went to church today and learned that I am not normal. No one is normal. What is normal? Who defined what is normal and how to act normal? We should all embrace our uniqueness because that is what makes us, us. So get out there and be yourself!!

Snobama day

I never knew that one tiny inch of snow can cancel a whole day of school. I mean I an not complaining. Real early Tuesday morning the Gods of snow poured down on Rock Hill. The beautiful snow covered the yards, cars, and grounds of Winthrop University. Everything was covered but the roads, but school was still off for the day! Also on this lovely white snowy day was probably one of the biggest history making things in my lifetime. The inauguration of the 44th president of the united states, Barrack Obama. Since school was cancelled I could now watch the history of the first black president. As I watched Obama address the nation, I could see snow falling outside. After the speech my roommates and I tie dyes some shirts and hung out and had a great Snobama day 2009.
